Day 122 Port of Spain, Trinidad

Today turned out really well. In the past, I pretty much made a beach day out of coming to Trinidad. Today, I decided to tour around a bit with Sandy & Grace. As usual, Trinidad is hotter than hades so a beach day wouldn’t have been too bad but…. Not today. We left the ship first thing this morning, grabbed a taxi and started touring Port of Spain. We looked at some of the mansions of yesteryear, some in better shape than others (referred to as the “magnificent 7”). We were not bonding well with our taxi driver so we had him take us back to the port. We took a quick break and went off again with another taxi. This time we were very pleased. We went out of the city to check out a couple of Hindu Temples. The first one was the Siewdass Sadhu Temple in the Sea…. When we got there the tide was out… way out. I first came across a local fisherman on my way to the temple and chatted with him a bit and got some conk shells for Grace with the low tide. Nice guy, even nicer dreadlocks….. The temple was pretty cool. There were many flags about, each one representing a different god. At the temple I found the mangiest dog, pink in color, that I have ever seen. I kept my distance... Our guide next took us to another temple honoring the monkey god. The statue of the monkey god was over 80 feet high. Pretty neat! We then went for a quick stop at the Caroni Swamp to see a couple Scarlet Ibis in all their glory. Very pretty birds…. Then it was back to Port of Spain where we walked around checking out shops and then back to the ship. Nice day!

The dog is heartbreaking and painful, it hurts.
