Day 2 At Sea

Today was a very relaxing day. I sleep like a baby last night as the ship rocked a bit…I love that. It has been so nice to see the staff of the Amsterdam. I feel like it is a homecoming. I spent the day reading and doing Sudoku …. Very relaxing. I also spent some time talking with an old friend, Willem Regelink, about some of our mutual friends who are currently in Curacao….. you know who you are…. Anyway, tonight is our first formal night. I may be one of the few people to wear a tux. These Alaska cruises are pretty laid back from what I hear. It was a good day and tomorrow…..Juneau, Alaska! We arrive around 11:00 am and my tour is just after 3:00. I’ll get off first thing and wander around before departing on my tour. Here is a description of my tour for tomorrow: Photo Safari by Land & Sea
Capture everything from glaciers to whales on this excursion that features a naturalist photography guide. You will travel in a media -equipped shuttle bus and aboard a customized safari boat as your guide provides expert interpretation while also sharing tips and techniques to enhance your images. By land, at Mendenhall Glacier, you will be taken along the secluded Moraine Ecology Trail. This gentle walk leads to beaver dams, salmon streams and remarkable glacier panoramas--sites to inspire your creative photography. By sea, board a covered exploration vessel for an unforgettable journey through the pristine waterways of Stephens Passage. Large panel windows open to give you unrestricted views, while your captain safely maneuvers to give you the best angle on the shot. This excursion has never had a trip without a starstudded cast—often including humpback whales, sea lions, orcas, harbor seals, porcupines, eagles, salmon or even black bears. See more of Alaska’s natural wonders as you strive to capture that “magical moment” in the medium that’s worth a thousand words.

Jeff,

I considered this tour this spring when we were in Alaska so I am going to be very interested in your comments and photos.

Personally, your photos are already fabulous so I imagine you are taking the tour because of the ability to get close to the animals and the Mendenhall Glacier.

Love your blog and have been faithfully following your adventures for the past year.

Jeff,

So glad that the journey has begun once again. Enjoy your time in Alaska before you start heading south and west to the warmth of the Southern Hemisphere.

Jeff,
I have an "Amsterdam" question for you. It has to do with the "loft" area. If there aren't any teens on board is this area available to the passengers?? I am curious because it looks like just the kind of place I would like to sit to take in some rays.

Did a "google seach" for Magical Moments in Alaska.

Results came back and light to heavy snow flurries.

Salons will be open for tanning.

Have a good one Bud.

Jeff - I took that excursion in May when I was on the Zuiderdam and thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the small group of only 12 people. My guide's name was George and he was a delightful young man. I'm officially begging you not to enter the photography contest they're holding because I entered it and need a fighting chance to win (grin). Hope the weather is cooperating.
