Day 5, Basseterre, St. Kitts

Today we arrived bright and early in the port of Basseterre, St. Kitts. It was a beautiful morning and I was ready for some exploring. I met up with Brad around 8:00 and we headed ashore. WE ran into our friends from other grand voyages, Jessica & Jim Smith who were looking at hiring a taxi and doing a full island tour. They asked if we were interested and we signed on. Our diver was a gentleman named Leroy Jones who turned out to be one of the best guides ever, no matter what country we were exploring. If you are coming to St. Kitts, I highly recommend you hook up with Leroy (leroyjones262@yahoo.com), you won’t be disappointed. Anyway, we headed out going west on Bay road and started our trek around the island. The trip was fabulous… the scenery was amazing and Leroy’s commentary very informative. One of the major highlights was Brimstone Hill Fortress…. It is exceptionally well preserved and restored. A magnificent site! The Black Rocks were also a highlight of our tour. Aside from that we were inundated with spectacular scenery all around the island…. It was a terrific day! Unfortunately, my day ended with a bit of a damper as my cabin was once again filled with diesel delights…. I feel like an oil baron…

I have finally caught up with this thread as we have been away from the computer since you left home.

I am looking forward to my daily read of your adventures and also seeing the beautiful photos that you post each day.

Hope your toe is on the improve.

I recognize many of the pictures from our visits to St Kitts ... but where were the photos of the tall stone structure taken (right above the yellow Caribelle Batik building)? We'll be in St K again this December and I think that location would make a nice photo op stop.
