We arrived into the port at Arica, Chile at around 7:00 a.m. I was out there early as usual for the sail in. I had been informed that the sun would rise at 6:18 a.m. so I got out around 6:00. Much to my surprise… sunrise wasn’t until 7:20 a.m. Oh well…. Our visit to the town was great. It is a beach town situated between the sea and desert. It is a great town for walking. A couple of the highlights in town were the San Marcos Cathedral designed by Architect Alexandre Gustav Eiffel and El Morro de Arica, a huge mound overlooking the city. We toured the town for a few hours and then went for lunch at a fabulous restaurant, Terra Mata. After a magnificent lunch we hooked a taxi for a ride to the top of El Morro for a scenic view. We ran into Aart & Yvonne and their crew at the to and they had just come from viewing some caves along the coast. They insisted that we must go so we asked Jorge our driver to take us there. The sights there were magnificent. The climbs were a bit treacherous at times but the scenery magnificent. It was a great day…..
