Day 120 Galapagos Islands

Our last day in the Galapagos has arrived, a sad time. The time went by quickly. I went for a quick trip ashore this morning in the Bachas Beach area on Santa Cruz Island. The word “Bachas” came from a mispronunciation of the word “Barges” referring to the barges that were left behind on the beach after the war…. You can still see the rusting hulks. I did manage to get a couple of interesting shots, sea turtles again playing piggy back and a petrol looking like it is walking on water. We left the ship around 10:30 and headed for the airport on Baltra. There we waited, and shopped, for about 3 hours before we left for Guayaquil, Ecuador. Once in Guayaquil we got on a LAN Air flight for Lima, Peru. LAN was another low point, sitting for 1 ½ hours on the plan while they refueled part of which was without air of any kind. I did enjoy the burning sensation that the fuel fumes gave to my eyes…. WE made it back to the ms Amsterdam around 9:30 and it was a great reception…. The Captain and all the senior staff were there to greet us… nice touch! Great visit to the Galapagos….
