Day 129 Puerto Montt, Chile

Today we arrived into the harbor of Puerto Montt very early under overcast skies. We were anchored around 7:00 a.m. and very soon after the skies cleared and it was a beautiful day…one of the best. I went ashore with my friends Corrine, Sandra & Allan. We didn’t have much of a plan except to try and see the Volcanoes which were supposed to be quite impressive. We hooked up with a nice young guy named Hector who agreed to take us around for the day. Our first stop was Puerto Varas a popular lakeside resort town on Lago Llanquihue, Chile’s second largest lake. It was a lovely town, very picturesque with views of the Volcanoes. The two most visible volcanoes were Osorno, a conical dormant volcano and Calbuco a still active volcano. Great views! Next we drove, with stops along the way, to Petrohue waterfalls which was spectacular….. Again great scenic views. We stopped for a lovely seafood lunch before making our way back to Puerto Montt to tender back to the ship. The day was so spectacular that, even though it was late afternoon, it was pool time. The sun was hot and felt great. What a great day!

Leper Island! Rotting hands and limbs rolling down the hill...I might have embelished just a tad, but the vision is still there.
