Day 19 St. Thomas, USVI

Today we arrived very early into St. Thomas, docking at Crown Bay. FYI, not a big fan of Crown Bay…. I am more of a Havensight kind of guy. Brad & I left early and headed to Megan’s Bay. I figured an early start beating the crowd could be smart since there are over 20,000 cruise ship passengers arriving today. The beach was not at its best…. Big swells brought the tides way in along with a lot of debris and not the clear azure blue waters we normally find. We hung out there for a couple of hours until the dark clouds came and it started sprinkling. We headed for Charlotte Amalie and did a bit of shopping before heading back to Crown Bay. On the way back we had the taxi driver take the high road back to get photos of the Oasis of the Seas (world’s largest cruise ship) next to the Maasdam. The photos tell the story…. Amazing! I wouldn’t go on that ship even if it were free. Imagine over 5000 passengers…. We talked to some and they talked of long lines and a lot of waiting but…. There’s more! The taxi driver said he thought the ship had a problem with the sewage system because it stinks…. I thought he must be exaggerating. We got back to the ship and I went poolside…. I had to leave the pool area because the smell from the Sewage of the Seas was intolerable… For those onboard, enjoy your cesspool….

The size difference between the Oasis and your ship is crazy! Great shot. Amazing shots as usual, thanks again for taking us along!!

WOW!! I've been hoping someone would be able to post a pic of one of HAL's ships next to the Oasis. That is just way too BIG! It would be interesting to see, but I sure wouldn't want to be on it.

Thanks for posting....I enjoy your travels!

thks for the heads up on the prob with the sewage of the seas. I wouldn't like anyway to cruise on that one and just think in a couple days sewage of the sea's sister will be arriving in lauderdale. Enjoying the blog and liked the pic of the "other ship" next to the maasdam.

Love the pelican shots. I hope the Oasis fixes whatever issues they have so its passengers can enjoy their cruise.

Jeff, Sure enjoyed our first 11 days of your adventure on the Maasdam. We are home from scuba lessons in Key Largo and now back to work. We will continue our vacation in spirit with you. See you again on another cruise.

Hi Jeff,
Seems like this isn't the week to be on a larger vessel-Carnival's Splendor had a fire and is being towed back to California with 4500 people with no a/c and limited food offerings. Not my idea of a relaxing vacation.
Hope all stays positive on your trip.
We had our 1st snow Monday and on tv today it was reported the whales are getting sunburned. Maybe you could toss them some of your bronzer!

Please check your facts and sources. Oasis of the Seas as an on board incinerator to turn waste matter into ash. No sewage is ever released from the ship.

The Oasis is the most greenest ship afloat. They burn the sewage, so perhaps that was the smell. I have not been on Hal, but have heard that the demographics are 70 years old and up and that the ships activities cease after 9 pm.
I would never sail on the Hal retirement ships.........

I never said that it releases sewage. It does smell like sewage and that is a fact! Ask anyone who was docked next to her downwind! The people on this ship are nowhere near 70.... Check your facts. By the way, World Voyages do have an older crowd, perhaps that is because the voyages are about 4 months long and expensive. That is a very diffferent market!
