Day 19 Nuku Hiva, Marquesas

It was a hot day in Nuku Hiva… We arrived early this morning and anchored just offshore of Nuku Hiva, Marquesas. Actually we were in the caldera of an old volcano…very picturesque. Coming back here brought back some really nice memories from the 2008 World Voyage. As planned, I went ashore on the first tender and began exploring the local area along the coast. It really is a very lush and beautiful place. The black sand beaches are somewhat inviting but the shark infested waters gives you something to think about. I walked along the coast as far as the road went and then turned off to have a look at the museum and then hiked up to the Pearl Resort where Allan, Sandra, Apollonia & I had lunch last visit. I ran into my friends Ron & Wil here and we sat and enjoyed a cold drink while soaking up the spectacular views. I ran into other friends (Lola, Janice & Helen) there as well as this seemed to be a logical stopping point for anyone with the stamina to walk all the way to the end of the road. Ron, Wil & I walked back toward the pier, along the coast, stopping along the way once again to have a cold drink. The old statues along the coast from days long ago were fabulous. We headed back to the ship and then it was poolside for me. It was so brutally hot I did have second thoughts… The sailaway was excellent and it seemed as though half the ship was there. Great day!! Tomorrow is a day at sea as we make our way to Papeete, Tahiti….

Thanks for making us jealous. we felt we were with you BUT the weather in denver is cold today. Sandra noticed the pool had the same leak that was there before the new deck. Loved the pictures. Have a great sea day. Allan and Sandra
