Day 94 Mombasa, Kenya

I don’t want to get ahead of myself but, what an amazing trip!!!! We arrived into Mombasa during the middle of the night on April 9th to escape those pesky pirates. My tour left the ship around 8:00 and we headed off to the Masai Mara National Reserve. The first major highlight was flying past Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania… what a clear day for a nice photo. It sure has lost most of its icecap… We arrived at the Masai Mara around 11:00 a immediately went on a game drive. My friends and I were like kids, enjoying every moment with all the wildlife. There is definitely a lot of wildlife on the Masai Mara. During our stay we saw countless creatures including lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, various types of antelope, wildebeests, cape buffalo just to name a few…. WE checked in after our drive and went to our “tents”. The accommodations were very nice, a bit rustic but very nice. There wasn’t to be any running around outside in the evenings because all sorts of wild (and dangerous) creatures roam freely during the evening. I could hear hippos and elephants outside quite a bit during the evening. At 3:30 in the afternoon we went on another game drive which was wonderful until a thunderstorm can in and hit us hard around 5:00 – 5:30. We went back to the camp (Governors Camp) and relaxed a bit before meeting again later for drinks followed by dinner. While having drinks a family of hippos wandered through the camp. Dinner was a 8:00 and was great. At the end of dinner a bunch of Maasai came through playing music and singing. They were quite good. Before I realized what was happening the Maasai gathered around my table, put a birthday cake down in front of me a sang away… What a way to celebrate a birthday even if the celebration started a day early. What an amazing day!!!!
